Q: How is this different from a PPI?A: PPIs are pharmaceutical medications that block acid production in the stomach. This supplement contains natural ingredients and it works by increasing stomach acidity instead. In many cases, acid reflux happens because low stomach acidity stops your lower esophageal sphincter muscle (LES) from functioning properly because it doesn’t get the signal to close after you eat. When this happens, acid can leak through.
This is why some people get hooked on PPIs that can work in the short term but stop "working" as soon as you stop taking them; they reduce the acid in your stomach so that there's less to get through the open LES. But that doesn't solve the actual root problem, which is that the LES isn't closing properly in the first place: due to low stomach acid.
